There is a widespread idea that cinema belongs to large crews, big budgets and sophisticated technology. And that is true. But it is also true that cinema can be told in another way: someone gently moving an object, taking a photograph, and repeating the gesture again and again until, almost without noticing, the magic appears. That is stop motion.

At CineCiutat we have been thinking about this for some time and, after the success of our workshop for children, we are taking a step further and launching our first stop motion workshop for adults. Yes, for adults! No prior experience is required, only curiosity: a willingness to observe what happens between frame and frame, what transforms, and how movement can emerge from the smallest gesture.

23/05 – INTRODUCTION, BASIC ANIMATION PRINCIPLES AND CUT-OUT

In the first session, participants will be introduced to the language and basic principles of stop motion. Through a short theoretical part and practical exercises, they will learn how to use an animation app and create their own piece using the cut-out technique. Each participant will design their character and set using simple materials and carry out a first frame-by-frame shoot.

30/05 – SET DESIGN, CHARACTER CREATION, SHOOTING AND ANIMATION

In the second session, participants will work in a more professional environment, with a shooting set equipped with lighting, camera and technical support. They will work in groups to develop a short story, structure it into a script and storyboard, and shoot it. The aim is to experience the complete process of creating an animation piece as a team.
