K-POP DEMON HUNTERS ARRIVE AT CINECIUTAT
K-POP DEMON HUNTERS ARRIVE AT CINECIUTAT
13 May 2026

Some films arrive on our screens the moment they're released, and others take a slightly longer route. K-Pop Demon Hunters didn't cross our path the first time around, but a year on, with everything that has happened along the way, it finally finds its place in our theatre.

Let's start with the obvious. In March, the film won two Oscars: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for Golden, the first K-pop song ever to win that statuette in the history of the Academy Awards. Director Maggie Kang and producer Michelle LM Wong, on top of that, became the first Asian women to receive the Best Animated Feature Oscar. Some facts carry real weight, and this is one of them.

But the Oscars weren't the ones who introduced the film to the CineCiutat programming team. We watched it calmly, without the rush of the algorithms, and the truth is we simply fell for it. There is something in the way Maggie Kang plays with Korean mythology, with the idol industry and with the language of manhwa that turns it into much more than a viral phenomenon.

That is why, with the anniversary of its release as the perfect moment and two Oscars sealing the case, we are bringing it to CineCiutat. June 10 to 16, one screening a day. Tickets go on sale on Monday May 25.

For those who asked us to bring it, for those who already watched it on streaming and want to check what they sensed they were missing at home, and for anyone curious to see how far animation can go today when given the space it deserves.
