Before every shot there is a page. And before every page, someone who looks at the world and wants to tell it.
At twelve, at fourteen, at sixteen, that way of looking is already there. It belongs to whoever makes up lives for strangers on the bus, whoever knows exactly what they should have said in that argument and didn’t, whoever films things on their phone that everyone else overlooks. All of that is already screenwriting material. It just needs to be given shape.
At CineCiutat Educa we are offering a workshop for young people aged 12 to 16 to discover how a story for the screen is born. We’ll start from what they see, imagine and live, and work towards the written page: how to build a character who wants something, why a story needs conflict, how to write a scene so that someone can film it, and why the best endings are the ones we don’t see coming but that feel inevitable once they arrive.
The workshop will be led by Caterina Llabrés and will include a masterclass by Joan Porcel, a chance to hear from someone who has made writing stories their craft.
Four Saturdays in November in the cinema itself, surrounded by film, among seats and screens. Because there’s no better place to learn to write films than the place where they are watched.
