Cinema as Climate Refuge
Cinema as Climate Refuge
30 June 2026

There's a moment, in mid-July, when the city becomes unbearable. This is not a metaphor: it's physical, it's concrete, it's the pavement burning under your feet at ten in the morning. And this is where cinema comes in — not as an escape, but as a refuge in the most literal sense.

CineCiutat Comunitats is the space where the cinema stops being a place where people sit in silence and becomes a meeting point. A space designed for films to bring us together, to talk about the world we live in, to build bridges with organisations and communities of all kinds. Because culture, when it's real, brings people together.

This summer, every Tuesday and Saturday at 11am, we've programmed a journey through Spanish cinema. The series is called Cinema as Climate Refuge, and we mean it: seven decades of Iberian filmmaking about memory, freedom, and the people who survived — or didn't — their own time. A programme that Chantal Akerman or Agnès Varda would have understood immediately: cinema as an act of everyday resistance.
