There are films you watch and films you feel. And then there are Kristoffer Borgli's, the kind that lodge themselves inside you for days, stirring up things you thought you had in order. After Sick of Myself and Dream Scenario, the Norwegian director is back doing what he does best: pressing on the sore spot of contemporary intimacy and keeping the pressure on, while you decide whether to laugh or squirm.
At CineCiutat we are premiering The Drama with everything the film deserves. Because walking out of the room in silence, this time, would be a waste.
After the screening we will have the privilege of being joined by Susana Ivorra, psychologist and sexologist, for a discussion on what the film puts on the table: desire when it turns into demand, romantic love as an inherited script, the expectations we carry around without ever having chosen them, and the real difficulty of recognising the other person when we have spent too long looking only at ourselves. Susana has a way of talking about intimacy that neither judges nor romanticises. Exactly what a film like this needs in order not to stay on the surface.
We invite you to come for all these reasons:
- To listen to Susana Ivorra.
- Because there are films that gain so much when they are watched together and thought through out loud.
- Because Borgli is one of the few directors working today who can blend uncomfortable humour, psychological horror and romantic comedy without a single false note.
- And because it is rare to get the chance to leave the cinema and actually ask, seriously, what just happened and what it has to do with us.
