There are ways of shaping a city that don't run through big headlines, but through something far more everyday: sitting down to think together.

That's the idea behind the return of Diàlegs amb Ciutat, CineCiutat's cycle of open talks. We invite experts from different fields to help us look at the world with more calm, more context and — why not — more curiosity. The format is simple and radical at once: someone explains what they know, the audience asks, and the conversation is built between everyone.

This year brings an important change. We're not the ones choosing who speaks: we've opened a call so that people propose the topics and the voices themselves. Science and technology, psychology and sociology, cinema, art and literature, the historical and cultural heritage of Mallorca, history, philosophy, politics.

The first session

We begin with the first thing that ever made this island famous. For centuries the finest mercenaries in the Mediterranean came from here, and their entire military technology fitted in a pocket: a cord and a well-thrown stone.

On Saturday 12 September, Albert Comas opens the season with Foners a Mallorca: pedra o plom (Slingers in Mallorca: stone or lead). What they actually threw, and what that tells us about the people who lived here long before any of this was a postcard.

All sessions are on Saturdays at 11am, at CineCiutat, and run for around an hour. General admission 5€ / Members 3€. A very good mid-morning snack is included!
