Even though we're still immersed in Varda's universe, we're already eager to put on our striped blazer and immerse ourselves in the most aesthetically pleasing of Hollywood universes. We're easy to fall in love with, we know. One day, she's a filmmaker who found poetry in markets, in facades, in the people on the street; the next, a man with a perfect mustache who runs an impossible hotel. That's who we are.
This June, we won't say the world looks better from a model. Nor will we talk about children with overly large dark circles under their eyes, or foxes in ties. We won't praise symmetry or screen format changes.
We'll just say that, every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., we'll open a door to a universe where everything fits together. Even family dysfunctions. Even exiled dogs.
The Wes Anderson Universe arrives at CineCiutat
-June 3: 'The Grand Budapest Hotel', with Josep Alorda
-June 10: 'Isle of Dogs', with Víctor Navarro
-June 17: 'The Royal Tenenbaums', with Josep Alorda
-June 24: 'Fantastic Mr. Fox', with Víctor Navarro
Each session will begin with a brief introduction: no spoilers (we promise), just a few keys to better enter this universe of fixed gazes into the camera, impossible color palettes, and aesthetically pleasing broken hearts.
And, by the way, "The Phoenician Plot," the latest gem from this esteemed director, made a stopover in Cannes before landing at CineCiutat on May 30.
And yes, it was as Wes Anderson-esque as we imagined: impossible symmetries, delightfully absurd dialogue, and a nostalgia that you're not quite sure where it comes from.
So if you're one of those who suffer from chronic FOMO and want to taste the honey before diving headfirst into the series we'll be dedicating to it in June, now you know: don't miss it.
