María Luján, a fading cupletista, recalls her intense life while talking with Juan Contreras, an old admirer and the first businessman who believed in her: her beginnings as a chorus girl, her success in Spain, Paris and Latin America in the 1920s, the different men in her life, her dalliances in French gambling halls and, finally, her return to Spain, already ill, after the Second World War (1939-1945) to work at El Molino, a cabaret in Barcelona.
