Synopsis: In the 1950s, a Japanese family moves to the countryside. The two daughters, Satsuki and Mei, become friends with Totoro, a spirit of the woods. The father is a university professor who stimulates the imagination of his daughters by telling them fables and magical stories about goblins, ghosts and protective spirits of homes, while the mother is sick in the hospital.
